BMC claims to have recovered 230 missing files from its various departments
19 Jul, 2013
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made a statement before the standing committee claiming to have recovered 230 files that went missing from the civic body. Earlier, the reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act had revealed that more than 6,000 files related to different buildings in the city, including Taj Mahal hotel and government installations, had gone missing from various departments of the corporation.
However, in the recent standing committee meeting, the BMC officials said that the process of retrieving the files was going on. They also said that most of the files are not lost rather they have got mixed up and hence officials thought they were lost. Meanwhile, the standing committee came down heavily on the BMC officials and blamed them for being 'callous' in attitude. They also demanded strict action to be taken against the civic officials who were handling the files when they went missing.
The standing committee chairman has directed the municipal corporation to lodge FIR for each missing file and to conduct forensic tests on the concerned officials.
