Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission directs DGP to initiate action against PIO
10 Jun, 2013The State Information Commission (SIC) of Arunachal Pradesh has recommended to the director-general of police (DGP) of the state to initiate disciplinary action against the Public Information Officer (PIO) who happens to be the officer-in-charge (OC) of Sangram police station under Kurung Kumey district. The recommendation has been made for willfully disobeying the order of the SIC dated August 13, 2012, to furnish the information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.
A senior citizen from the village, who cannot read and write, had filed an application under the RTI Act to which the PIO cum OC, did not furnish information. On getting a complaint from one Yumlam Pumi submitting that inspite of the SIC order, the PIO did not furnish the case records pertaining to a motor vehicle accident in which his younger brother Yumlam Tarang died, the SIC issued the recommendations to the DGP. Due to non-availability of the documents, a claim could not be filed for claiming compensation.
