Accused claims call details obtained through RTI
6 Jul, 2012K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, the accused against whom a criminal case was registered for disclosure of call data pertaining to V.V. Lakshminarayana, Joint Director - Central Bureau of Investigation, has claimed that he has obtained the data through an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. He claimed that as he has obtained the information as per law, no action can be taken against him under the criminal law. K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju is an industrialist and relative of Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao. Justice K.C. Bhanu of the High Court has adjourned the case to Monday.
If the submissions are true, it indicates a gross lack of training and absence of understanding of the RTI Act on the part of the PIO of the organisation which provided the information.
