36 former Union ministers continue to occupy ministerial bungalows
1 Oct, 2013In reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by Subhash Agrawal, the Directorate of Estates (New Delhi) has informed that as on August 22, 2013, a total of 36 former Union ministers continue to occupy government accommodation.
The allotment of accommodation to the Members of Parliament rests with the concerned committee of the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha secretariat which is expected to allot accommodation of the entitled category to those who continue to be sitting members of the respective Lok Sabha / Rajya Sabha. Such MP’s are allowed to retain their ministerial accommodation till the new allotment is done.
The Directorate of Estates has informed that 36 former Union ministers who are now ordinary members of parliament are occupying government accommodations meant for Union ministers instead of staying in their entitlement category in capacity as ordinary parliamentarians.
