32 CBI officers found guilty of corruption in last three years
10 Aug, 2013
An application was filed with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details about the officials in the department found guilty of corruption or human rights violation and the action taken against them.
The reply to the query shows that action was taken against 32 officials in the last three years for their involvement in different cases of corruption. The list provided in the reply shows that six persons were found guilty of corruption in 2010, 17 in 2011 and 9 in 2012. In 2013, as yet two officers have been found guilty on corruption charges. The reply shows that departmental action against those found guilty included warning them, punishment and also transfer to different departments. However, it also shows that a few guilty officers were penalised monetarily.
The vigilance cell of CBI also provided some information about details of those complaints which resulted in departmental action against CBI personnel. However, other cells of CBI didn't provide any information on personnel with charges of corruption or human rights violation.
